Sabella restaurant in Bradford offers pizzas, pastas and entrees such as beef Stroganoff, oven-baked chicken in a wine sauce served with spaghetti, chicken parmigiana, lamb shank, and salmon. Everything is made from scratch and fresh, with dishes cooked as orders come in. Since it was officially opened, the restaurant had become a community favorite for fine Italian cuisine with a Mediterranean flair.
Mr. Akhavan, the restaurant owner, used to own restaurants at different locations in England. He has experience in the restaurant industry for over 35 years. When running restaurants in England, he had a motto: “Feel like a millionaire without breaking the bank.” It meant people could come to his eatery and “be treated like kings and queens” without dreading the bill’s arrival.
Akhavan, a Richmond Hill resident, has brought the same philosophy to Sabella Restaurant and Bar in Bradford, which opened its doors in April 2019. Originally from Iran, he was just 18 when he moved to Sheffield, England, in the early 1980s.
He had experiences in a popular Italian restaurant when he was studying. Then he moved up the ranks into management and, a few years later, decided to go into business for himself. The name of his first restaurant in Nottingham was Sabella because he loved it. He felt it was like choosing a name for his child.
He just saw it and fell in love with this name. He and his brother had five restaurants in different communities. Eventually, the family (Mr. Akhavan, his wife, and their two sons) relocated to Canada in 2009.
Mr. Akhavan does like Canada. He thinks it feels like home. He then decided to open a restaurant closer to home. He heard that Bradford is a growing town and a good place to invest, so they picked Bradford. It is his first restaurant in Canada. They have always tried to make menus to be affordable. They came up with the concept that you do not have to be extremely rich to go out and have a good dinner.
In April 2019, there was a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a menu tasting for the restaurant on Barrie Street. Family members, staff, and council members from the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, the Bradford Board of Trade, and Successful Women Always Networking (S.W.A.N.) were among the attendees. Since they were unable to attend, Carol Collier, the local representative, read Scot Davidson and Caroline Mulroney’s greetings during the official opening. Additionally, Ryan Charron, speaking on behalf of the Bradford Board of Trade, welcomed the new business to Bradford.
In the middle of Bradford is the restaurant and bar called Sabella. Its goal is to offer a fine dining experience with Italian and Mediterranean food, led by Executive General Manager Adel Akhavan. Sabella is known for its excellent customer service, whether it’s for a small, private dinner, a large group event, or a continental-style catered meal. You can get anything that’s on the regular menu in a large size. It has meat and cheese platters as well as vegetable platters.

The menu was a bit different at first, but we have found out people’s favorites and have modified some recipes for convenience. The pasta dishes – fettuccine alfredo, penne alla vodka, and ravioli – and sandwiches such as the chicken parmesan are the top sellers. The restaurant also serves delectable cakes, with the traditional chocolate cake being our most popular. All cakes are fresh.
Homemade tomato sauce, freshly shredded mozzarella, mushrooms, ham, pepperoni, peppers and olives
Romaine Lettuce, Parmesan, Croutons, Caesar Dressing
Lightly toasted ciabatta bread topped with tomato, onion, garlic, basil and cheese
(Ricotta & Spinach) with tomato or meat sauce (Substitute to: Alfredo / Vodka / Creamy Pesto or Pesto Ros – add $1.50)
Customers can talk to Mr. Akhavan directly to get a separate list of menu items and platters because catering is available with a 24-hour notice.
Sabella’s online platforms for delivery are through DoorDash, UberEats, and Skip the Dishes.
Downstairs, S2 Sabella Social offers a more casual party room.
